“Most of my colleagues have all chosen to install a water filter underneath our kitchen sink.”
As scary as the CNN report makes it sound, does that mean your Amarillo Area water is not safe or contains unhealthy contaminants?
Probably not.
However you still need to get the added protection of a Culligan water system. There are 3 main challenges for water authorities to work with:
- Only about 2% of the water that leaves a water treatment plant is consumed. Most water gets flushed down the toilet, used on your lawn, helps to clean your clothes or wash your dishes. So it’s challenging and expensive to make 100% of water meet our needs for drinking water when 98% of it goes down the drain.
- Once water leaves the treatment plant, there are hundreds of miles of pipe for it to travel through to get to every home in the Amarillo Area. Older pipes can leach undesirable contaminants into your water along the way.
- There is a lot of “stuff” in the water. Water in West Texas is very hard and high in both salt and mineral content. The city doesn’t take these out. They primarily take out the sediment and add chlorine based disinfectants. The water still needs to be filtered and softened after it leaves the treatment plant.
What’s the solution?
You need to test your water!
It’s possible that, like the EPA officials, you can benefit from an under-sink drinking water system, however we recommend a free, basic in-home water test so you know what the water is like at your home.
What about well water?
Every well is different. You need to test the water to find out What’s-in-My-Water? If you’re on a well, you are responsible for your own water quality.Your well can change over time so it’s important to regularly test your water.
We recommend an annual well water test.

David came today, filled it regulated it and put salt in it and started it. David is one friendly, sweet, polite, caring man. He took time to check it as he was heading to Cemetery Road.
